A look back: the first DC Climate Week

In spring 2025, Washington, DC came together for the very first DC Climate Week (DCCW) — a community-powered celebration of climate action, creativity, and collaboration.

Launched and run entirely by volunteers, the inaugural DCCW featured:

150+
events

4,000+
attendees

200+
volunteers

Events were organized around five themes and hosted at six venues across DC. Each theme was led by volunteer organizers who curated full days of programming, bringing together diverse voices and multidisciplinary ideas.

Our partner, Global Emissionairy, retired 273 verified carbon credits on behalf of DCCW, offsetting 100% of our 2025 event’s carbon footprint. These credits came from a local road rebuilding project that used a sustainable Cold Recycling process to prevent more than 17,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

💜 A heartfelt thank-you to all the volunteers, partners, and participants who made DC Climate Week possible. Your time, energy, and creativity built the foundation for what’s next.

Together, we’re proving that community drives action — and that in DC, climate solutions start close to home.
